Three Textures in Every Room
A room can have exactly the right colours and still feel cold. When that happens it is usually missing texture rather than another shade. If everything has a similar finish, such as smooth walls, a flat sofa and a plain rug, the eye has nothing to respond to.
Aim for at least three different textures in every room: something soft, like wool, linen or velvet; something natural, like wood, rattan or stone; and something with shine, like glass, metal or ceramic. The contrast makes a space feel rich and inviting, in photographs and in person.
You rarely need to buy much. Look at which of the three is missing, then fix that first. A textured throw and a woven basket will often do more than you expect.
