Give the Home Office Its Own Edges
A workspace that bleeds into the living room never quite lets you switch off. The laptop is still in your eyeline at nine in the evening, and the room cannot decide whether it is for working or resting. You do not need a spare room to fix this. You need the desk to have visible edges.
Mark where work starts and stops with a rug underneath, a shelf beside the desk, the back of a sofa or a screen. Add a proper desk lamp so the task light is not just the ceiling, and face the desk so you are not staring at a blank wall.
A defined zone helps you focus while you are in it. At the end of the day, leave it, and put the laptop out of sight so the rest of the room can go back to being a living room.
