Start With One Focal Point
Walk into a room and your eye should land somewhere on purpose. If it lands on a blank wall or the back of a sideboard, the room tends to feel unresolved, even when you cannot say why. A focal point tells the eye where to look first, so everything else can sit quietly around it.
Choose your focal point before moving anything: a fireplace, a window with a view, a bed or one good piece of art. Then turn the largest piece of furniture to face or frame it, and let lighting and accessories support it rather than compete with it. If the room has no natural focal point, create one with a large picture or mirror.
When a room feels off, it is often because three or four things are all asking for attention at once. Choose one star and let the rest be the supporting cast.
