Style Cushions in Odd Numbers
A matching set of cushions bought in one go is the giveaway nobody styled the sofa. Cushions and throws are the quickest way to lift a room, but there's a knack to it, and it comes down to variety and odd numbers.
Work in threes or fives, because odd numbers look more relaxed than pairs. Mix the sizes and shapes: a couple of larger squares at the back and a smaller one in front. Make one cushion patterned and the rest plain, and keep to two or three colours so the mix still feels calm. A throw folded loosely over one arm adds texture.
It costs nothing to rearrange what you already own. Five minutes of changes can make the same sofa look collected rather than bought.
