Leave a Wall Empty
Once you start decorating, it is hard to stop. A picture here, a mirror there, a shelf on the next wall, and before long every surface is asking for attention. The room feels busy even when each piece is nice.
Try the opposite and leave one wall completely empty. Designers call this negative space. It gives the eye somewhere to rest and lets the furniture and art around it have more impact. Think of it as the pause in a piece of music: without it, everything becomes noise.
Instead of asking which wall needs something, ask which wall could do with nothing. Clear it for a week. The pieces you kept will seem chosen rather than a collection of everything you own. If you miss anything, you can always put it back.
