My journey into professional organising began with my passion for organisation, structure, and the belief that our homes should make our lives easier, not harder.
As a Professional Organiser, I have spent years helping clients declutter, organise, and create practical systems that work for the way they actually live. My approach has always been about more than simply making a space look tidy. I focus on understanding how people use their homes and creating solutions that are functional, realistic, and sustainable over time.
As my business grew, I started noticing that some clients wanted something more. Once we had organised and simplified their spaces, they often asked how to make their home feel more cohesive, how to style a room, which colours might work better, or how to make a space feel more inviting. I was happy to share ideas based on my experience and personal eye for design, but I also realised that I wanted to develop a stronger professional foundation in interior design.
I began researching different interior design courses, looking for something that would give me a solid understanding of interior design without requiring a background in the field. Most importantly, I needed the flexibility to keep working with my clients, run my business, and have time for my two children.
That is how I discovered the British College of Interior Design (BCID). I chose BCID because the course offered exactly what I was looking for: a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of interior design and a clear starting point for someone coming from a completely different professional background. It wasn't overly technical or complicated, and the course length and flexibility were perfect for where I was in my life and career.
Throughout the course, I particularly enjoyed the residential styling side of interior design. I loved learning how furniture, accessories, textures, layouts, lighting, and colour can completely change the feeling of a home without necessarily requiring a major renovation.
I also found myself becoming much more curious about interior design in everyday life. I started researching shops and different design styles, buying my first interior design magazines, and looking at my own home with completely different eyes: What could I improve? How could I style this space better? What was missing?
Colour consultancy was another area that really challenged me. In fact, the colour assignment was one of the hardest parts of the course for me to overcome, but it was also one of the most rewarding. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me develop a much better understanding of how colour works within a space.
Completing the course has given me much more confidence. I now feel that I have a stronger knowledge base and a better understanding of the principles behind the interior design advice I provide to my clients. Rather than relying purely on intuition or personal taste, I can approach a space with a more informed eye and make decisions based on functionality, proportion, colour, balance, and, most importantly, the client's needs.
Going forward, professional organising will remain at the heart of my business. I will continue to help clients declutter, organise, and create functional systems that make their homes easier to live in. Alongside this, I want to expand into styling homes for sale, helping homeowners prepare their properties so they can be presented at their best, as well as offering light home styling for clients who want their existing spaces to feel more cohesive, comfortable, and personal.
Above all, I want sustainability to remain an important part of my work. For me, good design is not about constantly buying more. It is about making better use of what we already have, choosing thoughtfully when something new is needed, and creating homes that are functional, beautiful, and designed to work for the long term.
