When I first enrolled in the Professional Interior Design Course at the British College of Interior Design, I was excited but unsure of how my varied creative background would translate into the world of interiors. As a designer, artist, sculptor, and fashion illustrator, I have always had a strong eye for aesthetics, but interior design felt like a new dimension to explore a field where function and feeling merge to shape spaces and lives.
From the very beginning, I was impressed by the structure and clarity of the course. It was thoughtfully paced, with each tutorial building on the last to gradually deepen both technical understanding and creative confidence. What truly stood out for me was how the course allowed for freedom of expression. While foundational design elements and principles were clearly taught, the encouragement to apply our unique voice and interior design instincts made the process all the more rewarding.
One of the aspects I enjoyed the most was learning how to translate conceptual ideas into practical solutions. Tutorials on spatial planning, lighting, materials, and colour theory were particularly engaging. I loved creating mood boards and exploring different ways to bring a client’s vision to life. The assignments were both challenging and enjoyable, offering real-world scenarios that made me feel like I was already operating in a professional design studio.
Receiving feedback from my tutor, Simon, was always a highlight. His comments were thoughtful, detailed, and constructive. They helped me think critically about my work and pushed me to refine my ideas further. His support, along with the encouragement from Erin, the College Registrar, and the incredibly helpful Student Success Team, made me feel like I was part of a learning community that genuinely cared about my growth.
Throughout the course, I discovered so much about myself. I realised how deeply connected I am to creating beautiful, meaningful spaces—environments that reflect personality, mood, and intention. I also became more confident in my ability to manage complex projects, present ideas clearly, and think practically without compromising creativity. My passion for detail, colour, texture, and harmony found a new purpose in the world of interiors.
Since completing the course, I’ve taken significant steps toward expanding my design practice. I plan to launch ‘Be Inspired’, my own interior design consultancy offering creative, tailored solutions with a unique blend of fashion, forward-thinking and artistic vision. I am also planning to work on a commercial café project with an industrial chic theme, a direct result of the confidence and skills I gained through this course.
Beyond client projects, I’ve also applied for the Professional ID Pass and the Graduate Seal symbols, which I am proud to associate with my name as they reflect the dedication and training I’ve received. These credentials will help reinforce my credibility in the industry and open more doors for creative opportunities.
Looking ahead, I plan to develop my brand further, work on both residential and commercial spaces, and perhaps even teach or mentor young creatives in the future. The journey has only just begun, but thanks to this course, I feel well-equipped and inspired to move forward with purpose.
Would I recommend this course? Without any hesitation. It is ideal for anyone passionate about design and want to develop a professional, well-rounded skill set. Whether starting from scratch or building on existing creative experience, the course provides a nurturing yet challenging environment that brings out the best in you.
To everyone at the British College of Interior Design. Thank you! This experience has shaped me, empowered me, and helped me take the next step in my creative journey with clarity and confidence.
