After spending years as an artist but with a huge passion for interior design, my partner suggested a career change. So I began research into various interior courses available online. I was particularly drawn to The Professional Interior Design Course, delivered by the British College of Interior Design. It seemed very comprehensive and allowed me to complete it at my own pace.
The tutorials were delivered straight to my inbox every fortnight and were so good, I’ve kept them all to refer back to! There were lots of examples available and the instructions for the assignments were very clear. The submission process was very straightforward, and I always looked forward to receiving my tutor’s feedback. His feedback was always very thorough and incredibly helpful. My tutor gave great advice with a clear understanding of interior design as an industry professional. This gave me confidence in the course immediately.
Overall, the course prompted me to research areas I hadn’t come across before and learn new skills - particularly in technical drawing and design, as well as the history of design, furniture and colour - all of which I have grown to love enormously.
In 12 months, I have gone from strength to strength. I have completed two multi-occupancy interior design projects, and I am now working on my third residential project. I have built my own website, and my first national adverts are about to be released. I have more confidence in myself and it has even improved my mental health during very difficult times in 2020.
I can now combine all my skills and interests into a career that I have a huge passion for. What’s more, my tutor’s detailed feedback has helped me improve all aspects of my research and design and provided a service that goes above and beyond other designers in the area; something which I do not feel I would have achieved through any other course.
I receive wonderful comments on my design work, which further improves my confidence and enthusiasm for the industry. I plan to concentrate on my business, Atlas Interior, full time in the near future and improve on all aspects of my skills. I would also love to attend trade shows and one day, present my own work! I have now enrolled in an MSc in Architectural Technology and Design, to hone my skills and add Interior Architecture to my repertoire.
I would highly recommend this course, and only wish I had taken the plunge years ago! It shows that it is never too late to learn or consider a career change. Now more than ever, we all find ourselves looking at our lives from a whole new perspective. It is truly the best decision I ever made, and I urge anyone with an interest in interior design to seriously consider The Professional Interior Design Course.
